super output area

Sandwell is the fifth most deprived area in the united kingdom. The SOA resembles a sustainable community in Sandwell health but in not so sustainable in other areas such as housing.
Rank of Living Environment Score Rank was 8,468 in 2004 and then in 2007 it was 9,857 so this means that the living environment in Sandwell is a problem this at present is therefore unsustainable at present.
The Housing In Poor Condition score in 2004 was 0.45 and in 2007 is 0.33 so with the government decent homes standards housing has become more sustainable in Sandwell. The recycling levels have increased to 33% as the domestic and garden waste recycling levels have tripled over 6 years.
The combined Air Quality indicator was 1.43 in 2004 and rose to 1.67 in 2007This shows that the pollution in Sandwell is raising and therefore it sustainability can be questioned but on the information from the SOA I don’t feel at this moment it is sustainable.
30 people in the Sandwell bough alone provideunpaid care 50 hours or more is not sustainable due to the increase of older people living longer and requiring more care.My option is that Sandwell is not very sustainable at present and its growing implantations for the environment will have a good effect on creating a sustainable area.

Education for citizenship

The constituency in Sandwell is the Labour party. Within the labour party had lower increase levels. Children and young people exam results were the best ever in 2009. Crime and community safety was down by 13.7%. Refurbished leisure centres have been created. Housing has under gone a series of achievements regarding the Government’s decent homes standards. Adrian Bailey is the local MP for Sandwell and my local council is Sandwell Soho/ Victoria council. Sandwell is dominated by the Labour political party which has served Sandwell residents for 8 years.

Secondly
The attitude I have towards people who are not going to vote in the 2010 election is its there right not to vote but not voting you have no rights to have your say within the council or within you consistency. By not voting the changes to changing societies can not be enforced. When you vote even if the course doe/does not make a difference it still has an impact on changing societies. Impacts on individuals through sustaining businesses ,keeping taxes lower and other economic issues.
The main concerns which I have which may influence my vote is cutbacks to the welfare state. Another concern for me is the changes or cutbacks that will have an impact now in higher education and for my children in the future. Public Transport is also an issue along side its sustainability. The Government funding in regards to retaining work and employment will be an issue to me because it can create economic barriers.

TRANSPORT IS IT AN ISSUE TO BE NOTICED 6/7

My option on transport is, there are transport problems and I feel over time it will expand on a large scale due to the changing society. Areas such as lack of car share will become more common and there will be an increase of young drivers. I think motorized transport does out weight the costs now in modern society. The reason for this is a viehical which is used alot is more accessable and less time consuming than public transport which accommadates a large amount of people. This is becoming a growing trend which has a large amount of disadvantages to the environment and transport. I have already made a good change for me and my family but a bad change on the environment which was buying a car. I have got into bad habbits were I drive to the shop and its a 2 minute walk, "I'm gonna stop doing that" but Ive made a good and bad decision in one but I bought a diesel car which is less co2 omissions which contributes to making the environment more sustainable.

IS CHRISTMAS SUSTAINABLE

I think Christmas is very sustainable due to religion, which plays a very important part of many peoples lives. Another reason for Christmas being sustainable is its a none working Holiday which family and friends can come together shared nice food and spend time with loved ones. This is impossible a lot of the time due to work load and work demands. Christmas also has a lot of impact on the economy though the sales industry. This time of the year is very effective for small business to keep at float" at times like this," wherefore we have alot of small business collapsing due to the recession. This time of year could make companies profitable. Christmas is also a time for sharing and caring so charities are more helped at this time of the year and so are other voluntary organisations helped alot at this time of the year. Christmas also creates a demand in services for example inport and export, royal mail services and fed ex. In a changed world christmas I think would still be here and I think christmas will change when the world changes ,this could be caused by the perpectives of christmas being changed and the modern influeces which have become more unique I think in a changed world christmas may not be as popular as now due to the changes in generations.

THE MEDIA AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT ISSUES

The news paper that is the best selling newspaper is, The Sun newspaper. I think seriours issues such as sustainable development dont really have alot of colmones in the newspaper. This is due to newspapers sometimes have a target and that is to sell with public interest, so there company can profit. The public interest, that sells today is gossip for example scandles, talent shows, soaps for example eastenders ,reality shows and also information on stars and there lifes. all these things take more public interet so people will buy the news papers who have this information more than the ones that dont. People can be ingorant where the environment is concerned. I think it is the newspapers right to inform you of important information regarding the environment out of public interest because even though people can be ingorant people can also want to no more vaild information that gives them an over view of whats going on in the country and what inpact it can have upon us. People also might what to inform others cos sometimes information passed on in an effective way could have an inpact on others opinons. Change of opion of others which can create a cylce of people which could have a great inpact on the environment. The media and tabboids low budget entertainment like reality shows have alot of influence in this country on people because some tv programmes deal with real life issues that effect peoples lifes. I think the media and tabboilds should be used to express such seriours issues such as sustainable development issues because this can also effect people lifes for the furture and generations to come. Programmes like bang goes the theory on BBC 1 Thurseday 03 December is a good source of coverage, this was a experiement to show how much energy we are using in normal family and how to use less which can contribute to the changing of opions of others with being environmentally friendly. The media can be effective but this depends on there approach . Also will this approach be consistant.

EQUALITY & FAIRNESS

As a citzen I think it is a moral and and legal duty to be informed, but I think alot of organisations who support communities are not as informed about polices and procedures as they should be. The reason for me saying this is alot of information is not passed on, so different people can tell you different things even if there with in the same organisations, this leaves me as a citzen having to seek information else where. I think I am well informed when it comes to our country and our plant excluding my local area and my region because I think if I required very detailed information I would need to do alot of research. This would be to make sure the information I need is correct and also relevent. How I get to be informed about seriours issues which may be in local areas, our region, country or our planet is via the news, internet, government, news papers, television, other forms of research methods, books, leaflets and also statictics. I think that it is a great responsibility to be equal and fair within our planet which involves many areas and aspects of peoples lives which can affect sustainable development so I would rather leave the complicated decisions up to others, such as governing bodies.

The Incovenient Truth

I think that this was very much deserved by us who use cars instead of buses, which could save the environment form even more harm. I also think it is deserved by us who can save the environment by using less power in our homes, gas, coal, recycling, growing fruit and vegetables. Accepting those who use there resoures effectively for example people who use solar power which is expensive in the beginning but contributes to helping save energy. I think we dont deserve death but have to face the consequences of or actions me also as a individual, locally, nationally and also internationally, if we take part in the harm to the enviornment. The film was very powerful and sends the message to all age groups, genders and cultures. The issue of climate change may be able to postively influence depending on a persons overview of the video but it can also not be effective to the people who have soley dependant on the items such as cars and trains which are used for convenience. The statement which was said that it is not a political issue, it is a moral issue expresses the importance which stood out for me as serious and this could do the same for others. As a person this has made be relise the extent of the gobal crisis and it has effected me a way wherefore, I want to contribute to help influence of grobal change even though i still contribute to the affect of the climate by catching the train and bus. Wherefore I feel I am apart of the problem but would like to contribute in anyway possible to help the environment where I can. The first for me is recycling and walking to the bus station instead of catching the bus.
